Micro, Mini and MLC are easier to understand as three packing envelopes than as small, medium and large promises. Patagonia's current range spans 22, 30 and 45 liters. Patagonia lists the Micro MLC 22L, style 49260, at 18 × 12 × 5.5 inches and 870 grams. The Mini MLC 30L, style 49266, is listed at 20 × 12 × 7 inches and 1,290 grams. The MLC 45L, style 49307, is listed at 22 × 14.5 × 7.6 inches and 1,635 grams.

Micro: a deliberately limited envelope
The 22L size is the place to start when you carry a compact working load, use another bag for most clothing or have a highly disciplined packing list. Its smaller exterior can be useful, but even this size does not receive automatic personal-item approval on every airline.
Consider what happens when you add footwear. A rigid pair of shoes can consume a disproportionate share of a small rectangular bag. If those shoes are mandatory, compare the actual space they occupy with the clothing and equipment that remain. A tiny wash kit will not necessarily compensate for them.
Mini: room for a broader clothing rotation
The 30L Mini is a logical middle candidate for a traveler who wants room for clothing without immediately committing to the largest MLC. Its manufacturer-listed empty weight is 420 grams above the Micro. That difference is worth including when you are working toward a strict total cabin-weight allowance.
Do not assume the word Mini means it will fit under every seat. Its listed 20-inch dimension alone makes it important to compare your booking's allowance. Use the airline checker to separate the size question from whether the main compartment holds your planned load.
MLC45: capacity that should have an assigned job
The 45L model can accommodate a more substantial travel load, but its larger outline and heavier shell stay with you even when the contents decrease. It is the more convincing choice when bulky layers, multiple clothing roles or equipment consistently exceed the smaller options.
A useful exercise is to write down what the extra space carries. If the answer is necessary work clothing or cold-weather gear, the larger size may simplify the trip. If the answer is several items you might possibly want, you may be purchasing a heavier load rather than flexibility.
Make room for ordinary repacking
Try a packing plan that you can repeat on a hotel bed without perfect folding. Leave somewhere for a jacket removed during the day and for clothing awaiting laundry. A bag that requires elaborate compression every morning can make moving between stops unnecessarily slow.
Choose the smallest MLC that handles that realistic arrangement within your transport limits. Then compare the exact current listing, including its carrying options and laptop storage, rather than using the family name as a substitute for the details.
