easyJet Backpacks: Small Cabin Bag Versus Large Cabin Bag

For easyJet, first identify whether you are choosing the free small cabin bag or an additional large cabin bag. The official guidance checked September 10, 2026 gives the small bag a 45 × 36 × 20-centimeter maximum and requires it beneath the seat. The two categories should not share one shopping shortlist.

The small bag can do more than carry a laptop

Its relatively broad outline can accommodate a practical short-trip load, but usable space still depends on the backpack’s construction. Thick padding, internal walls and projecting pockets consume part of the envelope.

If clothing is the main cargo, compare the main cavity’s shape and opening. If a computer must travel, establish the rigid sleeve dimensions first. A larger capacity claim cannot compensate for a laptop compartment that makes the bag too tall or deep.

The larger bag depends on your entitlement

easyJet lists a maximum of 56 × 45 × 25 centimeters for the large cabin bag. It must be covered by the relevant booking, fare or membership arrangement. Check the reservation rather than assuming a seat choice or product label supplies that entitlement.

The current page describes a 15-kilogram maximum and asks travelers to lift and carry their own bags. Treat that as an upper rule, not a target. A load can be permitted by weight and still be uncomfortable for the airport walk.

Measure the state you intend to fly with

Handles and wheels count in the stated dimensions. On a backpack, packed front pockets and an expanded compartment also deserve scrutiny. Use the complete outer shape, not an empty product photograph.

A model with an expansion panel may work in its smaller state and exceed the selected category when expanded. That can be useful for destination use, but it needs a clear packing plan for both flights. Do not let the return-trip load determine the answer only at the gate.

Consider who will use the bag

easyJet’s page explains separate arrangements for children with booked seats and lap infants. If buying a family backpack setup, read that guidance alongside the reservation instead of assuming every small traveler creates another ordinary bag allowance.

For an adult carrying family overflow, test the expected extra items at home. A bag that is already full before anyone hands you a jacket or activity pouch may not be a practical choice for the journey.

Choose a layout that stays accessible

A full-opening main section can make hotel packing easy. A reachable front or top pocket can make the flight easier. Compare both needs rather than treating the number of compartments as a quality score.

Before purchasing, confirm the exact model dimensions and selected size. After delivery, pack it, retrieve the likely screening items and repack them. If that routine causes major bulging, reduce the load or choose a better-suited configuration.

Finally, verify the current easyJet allowance in your booking. A backpack earns a place on the shortlist through documented measurements and a useful layout, not simply through the airline’s name in its listing.
