Only if the instructions for your exact backpack allow machine washing. Do not make a delicate cycle or laundry bag the permission: those choices cannot override a manufacturer’s restriction.

There are clear examples of the opposite. Fjällräven says to keep Kånken out of the washing machine. Osprey’s Farpoint/Fairview F17 manual also prohibits machine washing for the models it covers and gives a manual cleaning process instead. That is a dated model manual, so use it as an example of why the correct instructions matter, not as the manual for every current Osprey.

Look for the product’s name or code inside the bag, then find its care page. Pay attention to whether the instructions permit immersion, spot cleaning or removal of particular components. A framed pack, wheeled bag and simple fabric sack need not share the same treatment.

If washing is not allowed, empty the pockets and clean the affected areas by the approved method. You do not need to make the bag look brand new to make it ready for the next trip. Let it dry fully before replacing electronics or storing it away.
