Expansion needs its own fit decision
The manufacturer gives external dimensions of 21.5 by 13.5 by 9.5 inches and describes 1.5 inches of expansion. A 9.5-inch depth already exceeds an allowance that stops at nine inches. External compression should not be treated as a guaranteed way to make a structured or fully loaded bag smaller.
Compare the configuration you intend to carry with your own booking. Save expansion for a situation where the additional size is permitted, rather than relying on broad carry-on marketing language.
Several ways to handle the same luggage
The official model has top, bottom and side handles, stowable backpack straps and a StackIt strap for rolling luggage. Those features can be useful when switching between carrying and stacking. Keep enough space around the straps to stow them without forcing the clothing load.
