Osprey Sojourn 60L Wheeled Travel Backpack

The Sojourn 60L combines large wheels and a travel chassis with a removable backpack harness. Its useful role is rolling-first travel with occasional carrying, where the extra hardware has a clear purpose.

The Sojourn 60L gives a large travel load two ways to move. Roll it when the route allows, then deploy the harness when a section is easier to carry. That flexibility is most useful on an itinerary with occasional interruptions to otherwise straightforward rolling, rather than one where the bag will remain on your back for hours.

Let the wheels earn their weight

Osprey equips this model with 90mm wheels and its HighRoad chassis. The manufacturer positions the 60L size for checked-bag travel. Before choosing it, consider the actual route between vehicle, station and accommodation: long smooth sections favor rolling, while repeated staircases mean repeatedly lifting both your belongings and the wheel system.

The empty-bag specification is 3.71kg. That is part of the load whenever you lift or wear it, and part of the total weight allowed by your booking. Compare a packed trial with a non-wheeled backpack carrying the same contents. The better choice depends on how much of the journey each design saves you from carrying.

A harness for the difficult section

The deployable AirScape harness and hipbelt can be removed, and the back panel provides torso adjustment. Those details make the backpack mode more substantial than simply adding a pair of straps to a suitcase. Fit the system before departure, then practice changing between rolling and carrying somewhere spacious enough to work without blocking other travelers.

Keep the travel load under control

Compression and internal mesh or liner pockets help organize the main contents, while an add-a-bag strap can support another bag during handling. Attaching more luggage also changes balance and total effort, so evaluate the combined setup. Keep essentials accessible if the main bag will be checked. The 25-inch/60L designation identifies a materially larger role than the 45L Sojourn; it should not inherit the smaller model's potential storage fit merely because the family name is shared.
